Website maintenance

Keep your website useful after launch.

Website maintenance for updates, fixes and planned improvements. Establish what is covered, who responds and how changes reach production safely.

A live website needs an owner after launch.

The small things that keep a site useful are easy to neglect: a form that stops delivering, an outdated dependency, a broken link or a content change that disrupts a layout. Maintenance works best when the team knows what is monitored, what counts as a routine change and who decides what happens next. We begin with the current state rather than promising support against a system we have not inspected.

Make ongoing work visible and controlled.

Coverage is defined in the agreement. The operating model normally brings together these areas.

Baseline and ownership

We inventory the stack, provider accounts, access, domains, certificates, backups, integrations and known defects. That establishes what Orvenant can responsibly manage and what remains with your team or another provider. Existing risks become a prioritized list rather than hidden assumptions.

Changes and checks

Routine updates and fixes pass through an agreed staging, review and release process. We check the journeys affected by a change and record what was deployed. Security updates are prioritized by exposure and compatibility, not installed blindly on a live site.

Incidents and recovery

Monitoring should point to an action, not just generate alerts. We define who receives a failure notice, what evidence they can inspect and when a restore is appropriate. Backups are useful only when the data, credentials and recovery steps have been tested against the service you need back.

Explore Incidents and recovery

Agree the boundaries before the first request.

Response targets, support hours, emergency coverage and included change volume are commercial choices, not implied by the word maintenance. New features, large content migrations and third-party outages may require separate work. We also decide how urgent fixes are approved and who can authorize changes to production. The result should be easy for both teams to use when a request arrives.

Use one queue and a clear record.

Requests are triaged by impact and dependency, then kept visible through completion or a documented next decision. That helps distinguish a defect from an enhancement and prevents minor changes from bypassing review. We can discuss recurring issues and planned improvements against the work actually observed, rather than relying on a vague monthly activity summary.

Make the service transferable.

Your organization retains clarity over provider accounts, source code, configuration and the history of changes. We document the route for transferring access or ending support, including what records and credentials need to move. If the website has significant existing risks, we agree the remediation work before treating the site as a normal maintenance baseline.

Questions before we start.

Can you maintain a website you did not build?

Yes, after a baseline review establishes the stack, access, backups, integrations and known issues. We identify anything that needs repair before ordinary maintenance can be dependable. The accepted scope then states what we are responsible for.

Are new features included in maintenance?

Routine fixes and updates can be included to an agreed extent. A new feature changes scope, testing and often ongoing support responsibilities, so it is estimated and approved separately. The agreement should make that distinction clear.

What happens during an outage?

The response depends on the agreed coverage and the cause. Monitoring and escalation routes should identify who acts, what can be checked and when provider support or recovery is required. We do not imply round-the-clock response or a fixed restoration time unless contracted.
